Looking for a family-friendly hotel in safe neighborhood in...

We%26#39;re thinking about a taking a trip to the East coast next spring with stops in New York and Boston.

I%26#39;m interested in hotels that are very accomodating to families - I will be traveling with my husband and two small children (3 yr old and a 10-month old at the time of our possible trip). I heard that the Upper west side is a good place for families to stay. How about the upper east side? Not sure if I want to stay in the Times Square area...

I welcome any suggestions for family-friendly hotels and things to do that would be fun for my three year old. I doubt that my younger son will remember the trip so activities for a baby aren%26#39;t necessary.

Thank you!

Anywhere below 96th street is fine for both upper west and east side. Lots of hotels around the 50s streets. It%26#39;s expensive in NYC for hotels. You%26#39;ll need to book at least 2 months ahead to get deals.

I stayed with my family at the Wellington Hotel around 7th and 55th in a central location. OK, it is an older hotel but considering the price it was more than adequate.

The younger son would perhaps like to rolic through Central park.

I think the Affinia properties are especially attractive for families, most have large suites. Customer service is also quite good. The Affinia Dumont and Affinia 50 get extremely good reviews.

There are more hotel options on the UWS than the UES. The Beacon and the Milburne are all suite hotels (mostly) with larger rooms and kitchenettes. The Lucerne and the Excelsior have a few suite rooms. Read reviews here. All are well regarded, the Lucerne being the nicest imo.

On the upper east side, the Affinia group has the Surrey (lovely but pricey) and the newly renovated Lyden Gardens. I agree with Voy, in general, the Affinia hotels are great with kids. The Affinia 50 is midtown but NOT in the Times Square area. It%26#39;s close to Bloomingdales and some kid friendly stuff (Dylan%26#39;s Candy bar, Serendipity) and would be a good option too.

I also recommend Affinia 50 or The Kimberly (right next door). Both of these hotels offer a lot of space and nice amenities. As mentioned, they are mid-town, but not in Times Square. If these are too stiff for your budget, The Beacon or The Excelsior, both mentioned above, might cut you a better deal. Check rates at www.express-res.com and www.quikbook.com For your 3 year old, be sure to visit the American Museum of Natural History; it is sure to impress.

We just returned from NYC with our four year old. We stayed at The Kimberly (50th and Lexington) and had a lovely time. We had a two bedroom suite (living room area, fully furnished kitchen, 2 baths) for $529 a night. We ended up staying an extra day and downgraded to a 1 br suite which was equally nice. Very spacious, clean and I felt completely safe walking around the area alone with my daughter.

Although not located exactly in Times Square, I found the location excellent. It was a quick walk to TS (10-15 min), Rockefeller Ctr, and major shopping.

The hotel staff is extrodinarily friendly, although I would say the hotel itself is not exactly set up for entertaining children. This was not much of an issue for us since we were rarely in our suite.

I%26#39;m actually not so sure of how the natural history museum will be for a 3 yr. old. you might want to check out The Children%26#39;s Museum of Manhattan, The Central Park Zoo.

we stayed at the wellington hotel in oct and found its location to be great. 5 mins one way was central park and 5 mins the other way was times square.

the hotel was a nice base for us to stay in.
