I am booking a group of 25 rooms for Sept and got good rates at the Skyline (address is 725 10th Ave at 49th st) pretty good reviews, any advice from anyone about the location? Should be light until around 8pm, so is it OK to walk around and get to it from times Square?
thanks

The location is fine. That%26#39;s Hell%26#39;s Kitchen, which is an up-and-coming residential neighborhood and it%26#39;s very safe. There are tons of terrific, non-touristy restaurants along 9th Avenue. It is very walkable to Times Square.

The nearest subway stations are at Eighth Avenue and 50th Street for the E and the C, Broadway and 50th Street for the #1, and Seventh Avenue and 49th Street for the N and R. The E can take you to Lexington Avenue where you can connect with the #6, and all of the above lines interconnect at 42nd Street with a host of other lines.
Going north or south there are about twenty crosstown streets to a mile, which means that from 49th Street to 44th Street is about a quarter mile. Avenues are spaced at roughly the same distance as three streets -- so from your hotel to the center of Times Square is slightly over a half mile, which is not all that far to walk.
I live around the corner from the Skyline and use the hotel%26#39;s garage. (I also went to a charity banquet there.)
It%26#39;s in a terrific, safe, friendly residential neighborhood, with plenty of restaurants and bars on 10th and especially 9th Avenues. To get to Times Square, you%26#39;ll just have to walk three blocks (2 of which will be tree-lined) -- total time about 10 minutes.
I think you%26#39;ll feel somewhat distanced from Times Square which can either be a good or bad thing.
I agree with what%26#39;s been written. My question to you is what is this group doing in NYC? If, as your screenname suggests, it%26#39;s a shopping trip, it%26#39;s not the best location imo. 10th ave. is pretty far west. The blocks to the subway are long ones. If you%26#39;re going to something at the Javits center, it%26#39;s a great location.
the reason we are looking into the skyline is price. We will have more to spend, and use less on the room. Actually alot of the group will want to do tourist stuff too, so we will be doing both and just enjoying the city. Thinking about the bike tour of central park-sounds like fun.
I was once sequestered there while on jury duty. It had plain but clean accommodations.
thanks for all the help, sounds like a good area
