Easter in New York

Im planning a trip for me and my daughter - age 18 - for her birthday in april. Her birthday falls on the easter weekend, will new york be very busy that weekend? and is everything open as normal because in the UK everything closes easter sunday. Would i be better to book a different weekend?

Easter in New York

I visited New York at Easter a few years ago. There are some places that are closed on the sunday but most places are open again on the monday, there is a parade if I remember correctly which runs past St patricks cathedral, interesting . I didnt find it any different to a normal day in NYC. Another tip for you aswell, get free tour of NYC by visiting WWW.BIGAPPLEGREETER.ORG . I contacted these on both my visits to NYC and got taken to some parts of New York that you would perhaps not see. Visit the website for more details

Easter in New York

The Easter parade is not a parade in the usual sense of a route of march, bands, etc. What it is is the survival of the late 19th-early 20th century custom of the very fashionable people who lived on Fifth Avenue taking their stroll home on Easter Sunday after church in their fine new Easter clothes, along with everyone else who was a little less fashionable but who was also wearing their best new Easter clothes and who wanted to see what the whole world was wearing that day on the most fashionable street in town. The practice now is that Fifth Avenue is closed to traffic but open to pedestrians, and very often some women wear elaborate -- or funny - hats as they stroll about.

Thanks for the info, so am i right in thinking that apart from 5th avenue the rest of NYC shouldn%26#39;t be anymore busy than normal. I last visited in november, the weekend of the marathon and found it very crowded, you couldnt move in times square and had to wait ages for a table in restaurants etc. I would prefer to visit at a quieter time
