NYC hotels

Hi again! My friend and I are from SC and we are coming to NYC for a week!!! We%26#39;re looking for an inexpensive hotel in a SAFE location. We%26#39;re both in our late 2o%26#39;s and as single females in a new environment, safety is our first priority. However, we don%26#39;t want to spend much on our room since we won%26#39;t be there much except to sleep. Thanks so much for your help!! We are so excited!!!!!

The ';safe'; part of the request is easy -- New York is the safest big city in the country these days, and all neighborhoods where you would find tourist hotels are safe. The problem is the ';inexpensive'; -- what does that word mean to you?

The Newton Hotel is on the Upper West side on Broadway and 95th Street. It gets good reviews, especially for value. It is in a safe residential neighborhood with close by shops and good moderately priced restaurants. It is one block from the subway which can get you to midtown in 10 minutes and most anywhere in Manhattan in 30 minutes.

Hey! Thanks so much for all of your help! We will definately take it into consideration! Happy New Year!!

Most tourists like to stay in the Times Square area these days (most NYers hate it ;) If you would like to stay around there, the Comfort Inn Midtown is one good budget place.

Another option is the Radio City Apartments. This is an even better location I think, right near Rockefeller Center but a short walk to Times Square. It is, as the name suggests, all apartments which have a bit more space than a hotel room and the convenience of a kitchenette. It%26#39;s a nice way to save some money on light meals (like having breakfast in, a take out meal etc.)

The Salisbury is another all suite budget hotel that%26#39;s still in midtown but a bit closer to Central Park. Lots of people on this board have stayed there and love it.

A lot of people fall in love with Greenwich Village with it%26#39;s winding streets, lower buildings and oodles of charm. There aren%26#39;t many hotels in the area. The West 11th ST. Townhouse also has apartment style accomodation and has gotten good reviews here. The owners can evidently be a bit abrupt in initial email contact, but once you arrive it%26#39;s great.

The Cosmopolitan is a newish budget hotel in Tribeca, a hip area way downtown near the financial district. If you%26#39;re looking for nightlife, staying downtown is a good idea.

Ken has already mentioned the Newton which people have really liked in the upper west side area. This is a nice residential section with good transportation to midtown.
