Do dvds of Broadway performances exist?

I took the girls to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang last week and they loved it, so they want a copy of the performance but I can only find the sound track and the D*ck Van Dyke movie online. Does such a video exist?

(Ha! TA made me change Mr Van Dykes name because it is profain! Tee Hee!)

no they don%26#39;t; at least legal ones

Do dvds of Broadway performances exist?

The library at Lincoln Center maintains an archival collection of Broadway videos, but they%26#39;re only available for students to view on site. I used the service once to get a ';rerun'; of a particular show I loved, and I was sorely disappointed. The archive video is shot with a single camera, and performances that were spellbinding on stage were diminished to a flat, boring presentation.

When you see a taped performance of a live show, as you%26#39;ll see sometimes on PBS, it is specially produced for video. That is, there are several cameras and it%26#39;s edited for the screen. Even then, it often bears little resemblance to the original. Two favorites of mine -- ';Nicholas Nickleby'; and ';Death of a Salesman'; (the underrated but spectacular version with Dustin Hoffman and John Malkovich!), were brilliant on stage but boring on television.

What makes a performance so vibrant is the fact that it%26#39;s live. Hold onto the memories!

Thanks guys, I guess I%26#39;ll go for the soundtrack and let them use their imaginations to fill in the blanks : )
