american girl trip

I am trying to plan a trip sometime in January to the American Girl store. I have never been to New York and want to make this a wonderful trip for both myself and my daughter. My daughter is 8 and this trip is for her brithday. I wanted to do something extra special for her, my husband is currently working out of the country and my son has just left for college. So this trip has some extra need for being special.

Any ideas on where to stay and what to do thats near the American girl store?

For things to do near the American Girl Store, ice skating at Rockefeller Center, the Top of the Rock observation deck, and St. Patrick%26#39;s Cathedral are all within one block.

The hotels in this area are very nice, albeit fairly pricy. NY Palace, the Omni, the Peninsula.

This area is also the home of many of the high end stores, like Gucci, Prada, et al. A little to the west is Broadway, perhaps you can catch a show. There is also Central Park, the Central Park Zoo, FAO Schwarz.

Have fun!

I am so excited! Has it been snowing there or do you think it will be around the 14th and 15th of January? Since we live in Florida seeing snow is a BIG deal!

I think the chances of snow then are pretty good. We have had a ton of rain the last few days though. Ice skating in central park might be very nice for you then.

A few more things near 5th Ave. %26amp; 50th Street: walk to 59th St. and take a carriage ride in Central Park, walk west on 50th St. to Times Square, the morning crowd at the Today show. There is a really good chance you will see snow. Be sure to have warm clothing and boots or shoes (boots if snowing). Have fun, what a wonderful trip for your daughter.

Thank you so much for all your help. I have to admit I am alittle nervious traveling to a big city not knowing my way around. But it will be a big adventure. And I am sure that if the people there are as nice and helpful as the ones on TA then I will have no problems.

Just keep in mind that NY, especially Manhattan, is really pretty small physically. And there are cabs everywhere; so, just stick out your arms, and in a few moments, you can be back at your hotel.

The NY Hilton and Towers is definitely within striking distance of the American Girl Store. Make sure to make advance reservations for the Tea or the show (or both.)
