Hi
We are coming to NY on 10th Feb for 6 days, me, nearly 40 (which is why we coming to celebrate said birthday), husband and 9 year old son.
We would love to see a show on Broadway, any suggestions?
We are also planning a trip round Central Park, Empire State Building, Circle Line Cruise, trip to Ground Zero etc.
Has anyone any other suggestions for what we could do please?
Many thanks
Lee
What show for a nine year?
For a 9 year old, I would think that Beauty %26amp; The Beast or The Lion King would be the best Broadway shows. For the adults, the Lion King will probably be more impressive.
For other sites, it depends on your interests, but I think most 9-year-olds would enjoy at least parts of the Museum of Natural History.
What show for a nine year?
I forgot to mention:
For information on all sorts of activities for children, I%26#39;ve found the website www.gocitykids.com to be very helpful.
Lee, I think Beauty and the Beast as more of a girls%26#39; show. I think Wicked would be terrific but it%26#39;s not easy to get tickets and they%26#39;re never available at a discount. Hairspray could be lots of fun and that is often available on discount. There%26#39;s currently a half price offer here
broadwaybox.com/shows/hairspray_nyc_tickets.鈥?/a>
There are also a number of off Broadway shows that are kid friendly including Blue Man Group, Stomp and Drumstruck. Discounts for those on broadwaybox too.
Don%26#39;t miss Top of the Rock, the new observatory at Rockefeller Center. Most say it%26#39;s a much nicer experience than the ESB.
Your 9 year old might like the Mus. of Natural History with the dinosaurs or the space show at the Rose Center there. Would also give you a chance to see the upper west side.
Don%26#39;t miss Grand Central Station and consider skating in Cenral Park. Have a blast and happy b%26#39;day.
Does your son have any special interests-there%26#39;s a museum for any them here-the Museum of the Moving Image is great for kids and many of them love the Museum of Modern Art. As far as a show,I%26#39;d recommend Drumstruck-wonderful singing and dancing and everybody gets a drum. How can you beat that?
Hi Leemd,
We have just returned today from NYC. My children are 15 and 12. I had tickets for Spamalot, and Chitty chitty bang bang. Spamalot was great, the 12 year old thought it really funny, and got most of the humour, but the 15 one didn%26#39;t appreciate the funny side of it at all.Husband and I thought it was fantastic. CCBB was really really good for all the family and everyone really enjoyed it.
You will enjoy whatever shows you pick,as the atmosphere is also great.

For you son go to the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Egyptian and the Arms %26amp; Armor sections.

We had a great trip to NYC over Thanksgiving with my 9 year old daughter and we all loved Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. We went with another family who have a 9 year old son. We had already seen Lion King, Wicked and Beauty and the Beast. All would be fun- see what you can get best tickets for. LK and CCBB maybe less geared towards girls- although Wicked is fabulous for anyone! We also loved MNH, the Met- have hot choclate/coffe drinks and pastries nearby at Cafe Sabarsky, Top of The Rock, Chinatown, pizza at Lombardys and dessert at Rice to Riches, walking around Central Park. With the parade and window displays we were not able to fit in the Circle Line Tour. My daughter loves art so we also did MOMA and the Frick(we had to say she was 10). Just walking around the City was magical. Have fun!!
