Barclay deal - too good to be true?

To an outsider the rate on the Barclay seems to be a bit of a con. I mailed the company advertising it (you can%26#39;t book online for that rate) and it turns out it%26#39;s over $226 per night (including all taxes AND CHARGES). Now I%26#39;ve done the maths and the taxes on a $175 a night room don%26#39;t add up to $50?

Barclay deal - too good to be true?

update on this. Although the 175 rate was still being advertised on Travelzoo...that rate has sold out and the next best being offered by the company that was advertising the 175 is 199 plus taxes and fees..

Barclay deal - too good to be true?

the hotel is quite nice and still a deal at the other rate now being quoted often that hotel can run into 400 range

Don%26#39;t think I%26#39;ve ever deliberated over a hotel booking so much as this one and I%26#39;ve spent almost 50 nights in hotels in 2005.

We%26#39;re currently booked into the Crowne Plaza at the UN for $189 including breakfast but my husband is starting to worry that we%26#39;re going to be too far from the heart of things (personally I prefer to be slightly out). This looked like a good offer, although the reviews on here are mixed, but they seem to be for every hotel. Alternatively there%26#39;s a 4* in Midtown East on hotwire for $169 that we%26#39;ve been considering too.

Think the problem is there%26#39;s too much choice in NYC!

What are the amenities listed on the hotwire 4* in midtown east? On betterbidding.com there is a sticky on their New York board that tells you what a lot of those hotels are.

If I were going to stay in the UN area, I%26#39;d do if for the Millenium UN Plaza or a suite at the Beekman Towers. While there%26#39;s certainly nothing wrong with the Crowne Plaza, I don%26#39;t think that rate is such a bargain for January. Looking on quikbook for your dates, I see

%26gt;the Best Western Hospitality which is a bit more central for $119/night for a 1 bedroom suite!

%26gt;the Salisbury for $148. That says for a std. queen but that%26#39;s also an all suite hotel. They have a breakfast for $3/peson!

There are also lots of other options under $189. Does that price include all taxes?

Doesn%26#39;t include taxes as far as I know. According to betterbid, hotwire deal likely to be Barclay...going to book in morning if that rate still available.

As Glinda would say, Happy New Year New York-ians!

Well decided to take the plunge on Hotwire. Barclay Intercontinental for $170 per night!

There you go! Athtrasna you are a good example for others. You targeted a hotel...you shopped around.....you bided your time then you found the best deal. Way to go!!! The Barclay is a lovely hotel.

Betterbidding.com is a great resource for New York hotel bidding.
