Current Phantom cast- good?

Hi everyone. I%26#39;ll be in NY on January 5th and I have awesome seast to Phantom that night. Has anyone seen the show recently and if so is the current cast any good? Thanks!

Current Phantom cast- good?

The current Phantom Howard McGillin was reportedly handpicked by the producers of the show to come back and be the Phantom during the time leading up to when PotO surpasses Cats to become the longest running show in Broadway history.

He is reportedly very good.

Current Phantom cast- good?

Saw Phantom w/my daughter last week - he and the rest of the cast our terrific - this show more than hold it%26#39;s own after all these years.

Howard McGillin is, in my opinion, extraordinary--the most heartbreaking Phantom I%26#39;ve seen, and I%26#39;ve sen a bunch. But don%26#39;t take my word for it. Here are some reviews:

';With the Broadway production of The Phantom of the Opera just passing the 6,000 performance milestone (a feat achieved before it only by A Chorus Line, Les Miserables, and Cats), it seemed like an apt time to revisit the Majestic Theatre and see how this landmark musical production is holding up after almost fourteen and a half years.

I%26#39;m pleased to report that The Phantom of the Opera is holding up very well.

Let%26#39;s face it, you can never forget the first time you saw The Phantom of the Opera. For most, this cast will not be their first. This cast is certainly not the original one, and they may not be the funniest, most dramatic, or best sung. But if it%26#39;s been a while since you%26#39;ve seen the show, or if, by some chance, you have never seen it at all, this would be a great time to go.

This is due, in no small part, to Howard McGillin%26#39;s performance as the Phantom. Possessing a rich, smooth voice across his entire range, he sings the role wonderfully, but it%26#39;s his acting that sets him apart. He is at once refined and uncultured, demanding while nurturing. He seems to find every possible color in the Phantom%26#39;s character. McGillin%26#39;s Phantom is not solely a monster or entirely sympathetic; we%26#39;re as tortured as he is, he does terrible things, yet he makes us love him. I%26#39;ve never seen an actor bring out the Phantom as well as McGillin does.';

';Howard McGillin has just taken over the title role in The Phantom of the Opera, and he%26#39;s a revelation. Not at all the mesmerizing seducer that Michael Crawford and others have portrayed, Mr. McGillin%26#39;s Phantom is a genuine lost soul, far closer to the passionate and mad monster of the classic Lon Chaney film. It%26#39;s a brilliant performance, and it provides the vivid, dangerous center that this lush romantic musical adventure requires. I%26#39;ve never enjoyed Phantom more.

Mr. McGillin, too-long absent from the Broadway stage, inhabits the role of the Phantom impressively. Near the end of ';The Music of the Night,'; signifying the depth of his desire for Christine, Mr. McGillin%26#39;s Phantom wears a look of pained, pleading sadness that is absolutely heartbreaking. Later, in Act Two, he takes command of the stage in the long opera scene (';Point of No Return';), breathing vigor and life into a sequence that had never before worked for me. This time, it rolled forward thrillingly, driving the show toward its exciting and exilirating--and terribly sad--conclusion. It may be nearly twelve years old, but with the expert Mr. McGillin on hand, The Phantom of the Opera is better than ever. ';

Holy cow! I had no idea the current Phantom was getting those kinds of reviews. Thanks so much!

OMG, I%26#39;m mad about Howard McGillin! And I haven%26#39;t even gotten to see his Phantom. The night I finally decided to go, he was out, and I went with visiting friends so didn%26#39;t return the tickets. But I%26#39;ve seen him in a zillion other productions, from ';Edwin Drood'; to ';Kiss of the Spider Woman,'; and he is an amazing presence, a unique talent who can break your heart.

Lucky you!
