I am coming to NYC ont Jan 5 with my 17 yr old daughter.
We want to go to the theater and she wants to shop with x-mas money.
What show?
Where to Shop?
Where to Eat?
What are the don%26#39;t miss sights for a 17 yr old?
We are saying near Time Square.
Thanks
Mother and 17 yr old daughter 3 day visit
My 17 year old and I visited NYC over the summer, and the highlights for her were (in no particular order):
1: Broadway (we loved Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Spamalot, and she loved Hairspray more than I did); 2: Checking out wares from street vendors in Times Square (we stayed nearby); 3: Visiting Trump Tower (she%26#39;s an Apprentice fan; 4: Just being in Times Square at night. We did lots of other things...visited Chinatown, Little Italy, rode the Staten Island Ferry, visited the Empire State Building, St. Patrick%26#39;s Cathedral, 5th Avenue window shopping, Carnegie Deli cheesecake, . Provide your daughter with a list of things to do, and have her rate them. You won%26#39;t be able to do everything on the list, but you%26#39;ll have fun trying!

This is a great question for some RECENT VISITORS to answer and chime in! They have great ideas. Read some trip reports, and you%26#39;ll find great recommmendations.
Do you have a map and a guide book? Those would be a good place to start.
I do not have a map and a guide book.
I just thought we%26#39;d wing it but now I%26#39;m getting nervous. It%26#39;s very overwhelming looking at everything there is just on this forum.
I%26#39;m now going to spend a day and make a plan of attack at least as a guideline.
Definitely get a map and a guidebook. Also, check out Broadway.com and brush up on the current offerings so when you hit the TKTS booth at Times Square or South Street Seaport for 1/2 price, same day tickets, you%26#39;ll have an idea on what you%26#39;d like to see. Keep in mind that it%26#39;s cash or Traveler%26#39;s Checks only! My daughter and I both loved Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which we purchased at the TKTS booth. If your daughter is into girlie things, then she might enjoy spending some Christmas money in Sephora, in Times Square. Your guidebook will help you narrow down your many choices. Have fun!
Wow..that is coming up soon! There is so much to do there, better to have some rough ideas and not just wing it. You are staying in a good location foryour daughter%26#39;s age because there is a lot to do around there and you can walk to many attractions. If you can handle crowds and want the best bargians, go to Century 21 for shopping, and combine that with seeing the WTC site and St.Pauls chapel. If it isn%26#39;t too cold, do the hop on/ hop off bus tour for a good overview. She may like the shops in Soho and then over to Chinatown for the trinkets. Group your ';want to see'; list by areas. I agree that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is excellent. Also make sure to walk around Rockefeller Center, NBC Studios, 5th Ave. Read the previous posts here and do the search forum for NYC with teenagers. :) You will have a great time!
