We are planning to go to NYC in December 2006. What area is the best to stay to get to the best sights? Ex. Rockerfeller Plaza, Times Square, Museum of Art ect ?? A central location.
Where to stay in NY City?
If you want truly central stay in midtown. The Algonquin and the Sofitel are great choices. In the theater district, a few blocks from Times Square, MOMA and Rockefeller Center. That said, I like staying on the Upper West or Upper East Side. It%26#39;s a quick subway zip down to the throngs of people and bright lights, but a nice refuge when one wants to escape it all. I stay at The Mark on the Upper East Side and The Lucerne on the Upper West Side. Other good options are available. Check input from folks on this site.
Where to stay in NY City?
It%26#39;s difficult to say what%26#39;s ';best,'; because each area has a slightly different vibe. As a general rule I think it%26#39;s better to stay away from the hordes of tourists in midtown. The ';real'; NY is in its neighborhoods. My preference is the upper west side. It%26#39;s a large, upscale residential neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants. Great to explore at all hours. Wonderful transit access. Close to Central Park, Lincoln Center. Ten minutes to Times Square.
