trip report part 2

I%26#39;m tapping in and out of my report so hope you can follow ok.

Tuesday 20Dec - Potential disaster - the Transport strike!! Luckily our pre-booked

S ex and the City tour wasn%26#39;t cancelled. It was FANTASTIC. Our guide was Lisa, and having done the tours before, I was pleased that she wasn%26#39;t too serious. Very funny girl, kept the coach party amused with anecdotes and info.

It lasted 3.5 hours so we got to see a lot of Manhattan, from the Plaza hotel, thru Tiffany%26#39;s, downtown to the Flatiron building and Greenwich where SJP lives and around the Magnolia bakery to try cupcakes. Not from the Magnolia but the same recipe. Photos taken at %26#39;Carrie%26#39;s stoop%26#39;. Also had a cosmo coctail in O%26#39;Neil%26#39;s. It was great.

Went from there to the Rockafeller Centre to watch the ice skaters, had an inexpensive but very tasty Chinese snack at the Rockafeller Centre and went to top of rock, using the voucher from Cazpiece (thank you!) and even tho we were freezing, we got some fantastic photos of New York at night.

By this time it was around 8pm and we met another friend who brought us to the White Rabbit bar in the Village.

A gorgeous, I mean gorgeous!!! barman served us cocktails (virgin cosmo for daughter) and the roaring fire and great music added to the atmosphere.

The owner is pure New York, good looking, funny and very very hospitable.

Had dinner around the corner, can%26#39;t remember the name of the restaurant, great steak tho, and were close to the cafe of the When Harry Met Sally scene (you know the scene???.

Back to the hotel for a late night coffee. A little spoiled by the surly attitude of the barman. The only member of staff to be rude in our hotel.

Wednesday 21st Dec - Strike still on though I have to say that although most of folks working in the various tourist attractions and stores would have had difficulty getting to work, they remained up beat and there was very little complaining. I have lived through strikes here......... very different.

Anyway, went on the Manhattan tv and movie tour. Although this was ok, I would have liked more info on the old classic movies set in NY. Apart from that another cheap tour (拢20) and totally worth the money - you get to see so much of the city, and if you are interested in tv and movies, it really adds to the trip.

After the trip however, disaster struck. Daughter took sick. Stomach bug that left her unable to go ice skating in the Rockafeller Centre. Nothing and I mean nothing would stop her from the Knicks game in Madison Square Garden though. Poor thing yelling %26#39;Knicks!! Beugh! Knicks! Beugh! Without being graphic, she had nothing in her stomach so it wasn%26#39;t as gory as it sounds!!

Late dinner had to be cancelled as she just wanted to get to bed after the game. So my friend and I had a drink at our hotel bar. My goodness what is in absolute?? Three of them and I was talking like a washing machine on the spin cycle!!!

More to follow

trip report part 2

That%26#39;s wonderful! Great report.

Sorry to hear about daughter losing her cupcakes. I%26#39;m sure no one batted an eyelash at the Knicks game. Did anyone offer her some ginger ale at least? Did she enjoy the game anyway?

';What%26#39;s in Absolute?'; LOL!

trip report part 2

The virus your daughter had is going around!! We just had two days of exhaustion, headaches, stopped-up systems, and bowling ball bellies! If you can%26#39;t withstand the blockage, it%26#39;s gotta get out somehow. We both just over it, a friend got it last week, and now we just got a call from someone else with it.

We feel her pain. Poor kid, what a trooper!
