Our 2nd trip to NY in April, and looking for suggestions for evening entertainment. We%26#39;re staying for 4 nights, and not particularly worried about Broadway productions as we can see most of those in London.
Open to most suggestions, by the way, we are a couple in mid-40%26#39;s so not looking for nightclubs crammed with 20%26#39;s...lol
Evening entertainment suggestions
I should add, we are arriving on Easter Saturday (the 15th April)and leaving on the following Wednesday (19th). Are most things open over easter weekend?

S.O.B. (Sounds Of Brazil)
...how about a burlesque or DIY-experimental comedy show?
The Slipper Room
Bowery Poetry Club
Also, Makor (UWS), The Cutting Room (Flatiron area) and Joe%26#39;s Pub (Village), BB King%26#39;s (Times Square) have a variety of live music shows.
No matter where you end up, live music clubs are a great way to people-watch.
How about a comedy show:
Comedy Cellar is a great ol%26#39; mainstay, and it%26#39;s in the heart of the Village. It%26#39;s a little worse for wear, but you won%26#39;t be disappointed. It%26#39;s great to walk around the neighborhood.

Here are some general websites that have listings for music and nightlife. Maybe they%26#39;ll help you narrow down your options:
http://www.ny.com/clubs/
http://bigapplejazz.com/nycjazzclubs.html
http://www.newyork.citysearch.com (click on bars/clubs. You can narrow your search by category, such as ';Over 30';.)
http://www.thelmagazine.com (Also available in hard copy for free in orange street-corner boxes. For a younger audience, but thorough.)
http://www.timeoutnewyork.com (The website isn%26#39;t so great. Buy this magazine when you get here. Very thorough listings by type of music.)

Wow Queens, thank you...a mine of information, I will take some time to look into all your suggestions...thanks!
One thing we enjoy doing when in NYC is heading up to Cleopatra%26#39;s Needle to listen to live jazz. It is at 92nd and Broadway (take the #1 train to 96th St.). While they serve food there and it is reasonably priced, I would not recommend eating there as the food is mediocre at best. Your best bet would be to go for a drink. Check out their webpage (www.cleopatrasneedleny.com). If you do want to go, I would recommend looking at the webpage since it tells you who is performing on what nights--some nights are just ';open mike'; nights. Best of all, you can go casually dressed and there is no cover charge. Last time we were there, we had 1 drink each and with the tip the cost was $20 total (that%26#39;s the total cost for the 2 drinks and tip).
I think dismissing theater makes no sense.
With the exchange rate the way it is, it%26#39;s much cheaper to go to theater here for you and there are things here you won%26#39;t see in London. There are some really good off Broadway things as well. Have a look on playbill.com or theatermania.com
Swing 46 is a fun place with live music and dancing, good for s 40 somethings. Here%26#39;s another website to check
