NY in April - Soho Grand Hotel

Wow, what a surprise! Hubby%26#39;s Christmas present to me was a trip to New York! It will be exactly 10 years since he took me there to propose on the observation deck of the Empire State Building.

We are staying at the Soho Grand Hotel, anyone had any experience of this? The trip reviews I%26#39;ve read so far are very positive.

Also, apart from the site of the World Trade Centre, what has changed in the past 10 years that we really should see? We did most of the usual tourist sights last time.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Congratulations!! First thought is you must go to Top of the Rock, the new observation deck at Rockefeller Center giving the ESB a run for the money. Reports are much more pleasant experience.

Times Square will seem much changed I think. Lots of new hotels built there in the last 10 years. Soho is also much changed/gentrified. Don%26#39;t know if you spent much time there last time. There%26#39;s now a Bloomingdales in Soho along with lots of other mainstream shops.

The meatpacking district (edge of Greenwich Village) is much changed in the last 10 yrs., but again, maybe you didn%26#39;t visit it last time.

The lower eastside is another area much changed, but again not somewhere tourists generally saw before.

I think you should enjoy staying in Soho. I hear some of the rooms at the Grand are small, but it%26#39;s a very nice hotel in a buzzy part of town.
